About Our Family
Julie and Kurtis are a young couple that own and oversee the operation at Blue Pigeon Resort. They purchased the property in 2014 in the hopes that it will grow and become a family legacy in the future.
What was once known as Sugar Bush Cottages was rebranded as Blue Pigeon Resort with a new vision in mind and a goal of what the future will bring for them and their family. Opening its doors to the public for the first time in 2015; Julie and Kurtis understood the challenges of a new business but have managed to grow the Resort into a place where families and friends come to gather year after year.
Residing in the GTA, Blue Pigeon Resort is their summer “home”; you will often find Julie in the office and Kurtis overseeing the maintenance and operations of the site. Their combine efforts have turned Blue Pigeon Resort into the premier cottage rental in the Trent Lakes region.
They are excited to fulfill the family’s vision and enjoy meeting new friends in the process.

Our group of 30, ranging in age from 6 to 51 (including a large group of teens) had a great time at Blue Pigeon celebrating 11 years of cottaging together. We’ve stayed at many different cottage resorts and Blue Pigeon is now one of our … More top 2. We loved the beautiful cottages (Brookie, Leo, and Ivy) that were big enough for our large group to gather to eat and play games. The beds and pillows were comfortable and everything was very new and clean. Having our own campfire area was great, but we did need to supplement the provided chairs with our own camp chairs, so don’t forget those! The pool was amazing, excellently maintained by Ben and with lots of loungers and chairs with both sun and shade options to suit everyone! We brought our own boat so enjoyed Pigeon Lake and being able to have a boat slip and launch on site. The various rentals looked fun, but we did not try them out. You should bring your own non-motorized watercraft as theirs are minimal and in poor shape. Pigeon lake was paddle-able in early morning but often got too wavy during the day. That said, we did have a fun time exploring on our own SUP’s and kayaks several times. The waterfront is weedy and not really swimmable so be forewarned - but the pool and swimming off the boat in the lake were great options! There is often no one on site, but they respond quickly to emails. The other cottagers were friendly and made us feel welcome, and even tolerated our large group boisterously enjoying the pool (pool grandma was awesome)! Other reviews complain about what is and is not provided but they are very clear in emails prior to check in about what to bring, and honestly, for the cost, I think it is fair. Bobcaygeon is a short drive away if you need anything, and a fun town to wander and see the sights! Thanks for a great week Blue Pigeon!

While the lake … More area is not for swimming it is great for fishing and there is always someone big or small out there with a fishing rod. it's a well laid out resort so several of us rented cabins there all close together. What I love is all the cabins we have stayed in over the years are renovated and clean. Last summer we rented one with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms so that our large family of all ages could stay together in one place. Also, it's only a short boat ride or drive to town as well so that is amazing. We loved our stay and will stay again.

Had a great experience at Blue Pigeon Resort. Booked 5 cabins for a weekend with some friends and had a great time. We had a group of 24 people. Staff were very organized helpful with our planning, as well as responding promptly to all … More of our emails and questions. Guests are required to bring items such as toilet paper, dish soap, and towels and these items were clearly noted to us before our arrival. There is an option to include bedding in the cabins for a small fee which is nice and worked well for us. Cabins were clean and well taken care of. All the cabins we booked included amenities such as a fridge, fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, barbecue, and fire pit. The resort grounds were well kept and plenty of space to enjoy the property. Blue Pigeon Resort is beautiful and so are the views on Pigeon Lake. If booking for a weekend, having checkout at 4pm is a nice bonus. We would stay at the Blue Pigeon again and would recommend it for a group event.

My family returned to Blue Pigeon Resort for our second summer stay. Our first year we stayed in Hawk and this summer we stayed in Heron. Heron was recently updated and extremely clean. Our family enjoyed the heated salt water pool, playgrounds, … More and trampoline. The grounds were clean and well cared for. The free water activities (kayaks and canoe) were fun. We also rented the new 2-level pontoon boat for a glorious, sunny day on the water (note: the owners thankfully rescheduled our original booking due to severe weather). Julie and her family welcomed us and are responsive to our questions and requests during our stay. The only thing to be aware of is that the wifi can be spotty, which is to be expected as it located on a lake in a forest. Also, watch the packing list that the resort sends out in advance, so that you can bring essential items from home. Another fun added bonus is that the resort is close proximity to Bobcageon, which we visited daily for groceries, Kawartha Ice Cream, shopping on the main streets, and to watch the boats go through the locks. Another day trip nearby is Warsaw Caves Conservation Area, a short 45-minute drive from the resort. All in all, we feel very comfortable when we stay at Blue Pigeon Resort, and we will certainly consider returning in the future.

One thing is bring a flashlight.. it’s beautiful at night to see the sky without lighting but you also need to see the cute little frogs jumping around on the ground while you walk at night.
